INTERNATIONAL CONTEST OF ART FOR CHILDREN AND TEENAGERS

“ANGELS AND CHERUBS IN THE EUROPEAN TRADITION AND CULTURE”

under the auspices of The President of the city of Sopot

The organizers of the Contest invite children and teenagers to take part in International Contest of Art for Children and Youth “Angels and Cherubs in the European Tradition and Culture”. The main theme of the contest will be the “Angel of the Good”.

Many thinkers in the past were wondering about the universal values. The traces of their meditations could be found in the monuments of European art, for example The Upland Gate in Gdańsk where the following Latin sentence was written: Civitatibus haec optanda bona maximae: pax, libertas, concordia ( The goods that are worthy to be desired by the society are: peace, freedom and harmony). That’s why it seems a good idea to put into the shape of Angel the personification of Good, the value that, according to Bible, brings to the Earth the messengers of heaven.

We can find representations of the winged creatures in the major part of the religions, cultures and the pieces of art. The picture of angel has fascinated Leonardo da Vinci, Hieronim Bosch, Pablo Picasso, Marc Chagall and others great artists. The organizers of the Contest encourage young artists to take inspiration from the shape of Angel, so popular in the culture and tradition, to show the universal idea of the Good.

The works will be judged in the following age categories:

10 – 12 years old

13 – 15 years old

16 – 18 years old

The works should be sent till 06.04.2007 with the note: International Contest of Art for Children and Teenagers “Angels and Cherubs in the European Tradition and Culture”
