To all my friends from IJELP,
Merry Christmas from Bethlehem!
Bethlehem is joyfully celebrating the Birth of Jesus our Savior. Even the Muslims attended the parade of Scouts that welcomed the Latin Patriarch into the City from Jerusalem. There were bagpipes and drummers and hundreds of children in scout uniforms.
Pilgrims were from all over the world. There wasn't an empty hotel room in the city. Music and colored lights filled the streets, especially around Manger Square.
The Church was packed for Midnight Mass. I had received permission to concelebrate along with about 100 other priests. After Mass, we processed down into the grotto to place the Infant in the place where tradition says He was born. It was a Spirit-filled night.
I prayed for all of you at the Midnight Mass. May the grace and peace of the Child - sign of God's love for all humankind, fill your life now and into the New Year.
